Unfortunately, there’s a time in a persons life when they hit that middle age stage and plummet into a midlife crisis. You’d think, with Blink 182 having more dramas and break up’s than an Eastenders episode that Tom Delonge would have thrown in the sweaty towel by now, but he has come back stronger and more creative than ever before. Setting his 2015 goals high, he’s set out to create and release, -not only- an EP but comic books, novels, movies and animated short movies.

The EP title, Demos, Odds and Ends is unquestionably the perfect way to describe this creatively jumbled release. The concoction of songs delivers elements from a repertoire of projects he’s worked on since his music life span began.

‘The Invisible Parade’ reeks of a Box Car Racer essence, with its sole-some acoustic guitar strums accompanied by a less whiney Delonge, which almost gives the song a more somber and serious tone. ‘Endless Summer’ and ‘Golden Showers in The Golden State’, are structured precisely how a Blink song would be with all the punk pop necessities. The songs almost act as twins to Blink 182’s hit ‘ First Date’.

The most satisfying surprise lies within ‘Circle-Jerk-Pit ‘, its more of the punk and less of the pop. The angst-filled anthem repeatedly emphasizes ‘What you going to do?’ it’s unexpected that fast paced punk actually works in favour of Delonge’s voice.

It’s unfortunate that these demos were not used for the projects that Delonge purposely wrote them for. If only the fans got over the Blink 182 hype, they could actually see that Tom Delonge is more than just a teenage whine
